how do i get a layer to show on waybar?

i use keyd to switch between qwerty and colemak and i'd like to show which one i'm using on waybar (sway). i'm aware of keyd listen but i'm not sure how to use it to do what i want, especially considering it requires sudo. can someone help?

You could add the user waybar runs as to the input group and use keyd listen after all (there are some security implications --- they may be minor to you). You'd find the layout with:

keyd listen | grep '/'
