Hello World - Someone who's never touched web is lost.

Thanks for writing this book!

I'm 100% new to web stuff, and understand this book isn't there for that. I raise this issue, as I hope it can handle fellas such as myself productively without changing what this book is for. With that said: The Issue...

"And we can test it out with ." at that point I don't know what to do. I would like to be able at least know where to go so I might learn the assumed knowledge needed. Things like where to put the file, how to run the file, etc. I know I can go and find this myself, and I will be doing this, but having a link in a foot-note, for example, would give me confidence I'm taking the right approach.

A foot-note example: "If this part is not making sense, [here] is a book that can get you started." For me, that would make the lessons in this book much more accessible.

Hey @Ben-PH thank you for filing this issue! This is the insight we absolutely need. For those of us who do this often it's harder to find these blindspots! Let's figure out what we can do to make this easier for others who might be in the same situation as you. The goals I outlined for the book team is to reduce people bouncing off this. A lot of people get frustrated and just leave and don't file an issue so I'm really happy you did!

Do you mind answering a few questions?

  1. Could you identify some specific places that were challenging or beginner hostile?
  2. What about the web stuff do you find harder?
  3. Are you coming from a non web space? What from there might help us explain things better?

There's a lot with these, but 1 would be the biggest help so I can file issues now for people to fix up. I really like the idea of footnotes and pointing others to resources.

I can add to a specific issue I faced.

I followed the tutorial for the "hello-wasm" section. Then, I attempted the exercise. When I did wasm-pack build from the wasm-game-of-life directory the changes were not reflected at localhost:8080.

I then checked the answer and my solution matched.

I have tried repeating steps earlier in the tutorial, but to no avail, the page does not update and display a name.

I feel that the answer should at least include the steps to update the page. I'm new to this and ran wasm-pack build from the root project directory & have no clue why it's not working.
