This still seems to be the case, and now I'm wondering if we should just detect numeric axes and automatically "force categorical" in these instances.

Looks like this one needs the [pre-commit hooks ](https://superset.apache.org/docs/contributing/hooks-and-linting/) run. Hope we can get it through and close out the old issue!

Thanks for the SIP (and the PR!). We're holding the PR while the SIP settles out. The next step here is to start a [DISCUSS] thread on the mailing list....
One faced of the discussion here would be about the features we add to Superset's Calendar Heatmap. I don't have any push-back on any of your proposal in that regard....
