Cannot start/connect to backend server

I am getting the error Unable to start/connect to backend server. I wish to remove and reinstall shakespeer. Removing from Applications and then putting a newly downloaded copy doesn't work.

1 : Even after doing that my preferences remain the same so I feel that some files are not getting deleted, how to delete those files? 2 : Are there docs available for using the CLI version so that I can try to debug?
