I would love to see a new release with this feature to unblock a gem release.

I hope this pull request gets merged soon so that the working directory becomes configurable.

I was aware that rubygems recently lost a lot of maintainers, but hadn't put two and two together for this PR. Thank you segiddens for clarifying. Going forward, I'll just have to use my own fork (uggh, vendor deps maintenance)
