Summary

Clean out code that is not executed when read_events is enabled.

Why?

It's been over 6 months -- we're not going back.

Note

This will require a thorough manual testing pass of just about everything in the system

Criteria for completion

  • [ ] code stripped appropriately
  • [ ] tests (still) pass
