Request: Create aliases for v8-stable references

Open deoren opened this issue 7 years ago • 6 comments

Request: Non-versioned aliases for several URLS

Examples:

Current URL New (additional) URL
http://www.rsyslog.com/doc/v8-stable/ http://www.rsyslog.com/doc/stable/
http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/download-v8-stable/ http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/stable/

Reasoning: Having a reliable URL that always points to the current documentation can be useful when maintaining documentation (especially when drafting directions).

This could be useful if there ever is a new major version so that "stable" links in the docs continue to function as-is.

Another one:

http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/download-v8-stable/

It would be useful to have one of these URLs:

  • http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/stable/

Updated OP to include links in a table.

I think I have now implemented the requested redirects. @deoren please double-check. If ok, please close, else let me know.

  • Works: http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/stable/
  • Fails (404 error): http://www.rsyslog.com/doc/stable/

Re the failure, the lack of a trailing slash seems to be the culprit.

On a related note, are there any plans to merge these pages?

  1. http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/download-other/
  2. http://www.rsyslog.com/downloads/download-v8-stable/

While the content at the bottom of the first page is for older versions, the content at the top appears to be related to the latest versions of rsyslog from adiscon repos.

good question. Need to find out what was the reason for splitting them...
