gdalUtils package - no binary file installed on shinyapp.io

Open GISJewls opened this issue 10 months ago • 1 comments

Experiencing the same issue that was posted by Dan Wismer in 2018: https://github.com/rstudio/shinyapps-package-dependencies/issues/120

Our app is logging the same error again: No GDAL installation found. Please install 'gdal' before continuing:

  • www.gdal.org (no HDF4 support!)
  • www.trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/ (with HDF4 support RECOMMENDED)
  • www.fwtools.maptools.org (with HDF4 support)

Has something changed with gdal on ShinyApps?

Thanks,

Julie

I am wondering if it was possible to move to the gdalUtilities R package which seems to be providing similar if not the same functionality than gdalUtils but actually wraps the gdal binaries within the package ?

Issue with gdalUtils is that it no longer exists on CRAN and was removed together with other packages such as rgdal etc... While it is not impossible to still install older Versions of those packages (provided the gdal binaries are there), I feel it may be better to use a package that is still on CRAN and is actively developed and supported.
