Need to paste images twice

When I'd like to paste an image (for instance, a screenshot copied to the clipboard), I need to press Command+V twice. The first time it doesn't do anything; the second time it does in fact paste. I can then paste as many copies as I'd like, but if I put a new image on the clipboard, I again have to paste twice to get one image actually pasted.

Please let me know what other steps I can take to provide useful debugging information. My Objective-C-fu is not strong so I probably won't be able to dive into the source code :'(
