Future plans for this project?

Open mauvilsa opened this issue 9 months ago • 6 comments

This is a very nice project used by lots of people. Thank you so much! It is a bit sad to see that the last commit was over a year ago, the workflows are broken, no comments received in issues or pull requests. @rr- so I wonder, what are the future plans for this project? I could think of possibilities, like:

  • Resume maintaining it as before
  • Look for additional maintainers to help out
  • Stop maintaining it and just let some fork take over

Certainly it would good to let the community know so that actions can be taken.

Hello

I’m down to help out regarding maintenance of this project (CI related and code reviews).

If it’s decided to let a fork take over, it’s should at least be clear from the readme.

Thanks

I can also help out on maintenance if we're looking for help.

I would also be willing to help. If there is no comment here from @rr- in a long time, then others here could decide on maintaining a fork. And maybe coordinate on which fork to push forward to avoid duplicate effort.

@BrianPugh reached out to me via email bringing this issue to my attention - thanks! Currently I don't have the resources to maintain the project myself, so I appreciate the offer for the help with maintenance. I've sent an invitation to @mauvilsa . I'll later arrange access to pypi as well. (Edit: invite sent as well)

(I already had one person step up as a maintainer but they seem to not have done much with the project…)

I accepted the invitation. Though, I will be on vacation so might only look into this after a few weeks.

Thanks. Enjoy your vacation 😌 Please LMK if I can help you with anything more.

Hi, I just submitted a PR https://github.com/rr-/docstring_parser/pull/98

I see that GitHub Actions is failing in the Windows environment. Can we prioritize fixing the workflow first?

Certainly. Are you aware why the workflow is failing? Can you create a pull request?

The workflow log has expired and the failure details cannot be seen.

Do you have the authority to re-run the worklfow again?

I noticed that the GitHub Actions for the project have been fixed after some time of failure. I would like to ask if it would be possible to release a new version of the project.

coolbeevip avatar Jul 08 '25 09:07 coolbeevip

There could be a release soon. But after merging the pull requests active in the last few days.

0.17.0rc1 has been released and is now available in PyPI. People can try it out to identify potential issues before a final stable release.

It might not test too many edgecases of docstring_parser, but all of my tests in Cyclopts (which parses docstrings and reformats them for a CLI help-page) pass with v0.17.0rc1.

cool, I have upgraded to docstring_parser 0.17.0rc1 in the @camel-ai/camel project, and all tests are passing.

coolbeevip avatar Jul 11 '25 15:07 coolbeevip

Thank you for your testing. I have now released the final v0.17.0.
