Looking for testers
I think it's clear to everyone that my system for testing updates is not catching all the bugs that can occur. It also eats up a lot of development time and slows the pace of releases since I try to stack a bunch of changes together so I don't have to go through the testing again. Sadly automating the testing has proven too difficult.
It would help greatly if a few people were willing to volunteer to test new versions. All that's involved is occasionally downloading a beta release, trying it out, and letting me know about any issues. If you're interested in helping out, please reply to this issue with the following information:
- What operating system and version do you use? (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- What controllers do you own?
- If you're stuck on an older Anki release for some reason
I'll let all the testers know when I have a beta release ready and publish it her on Github, and delay releasing on AnkiWeb until a few people have tried it out. I'll still test myself, but hopefully I can ease off as I get more testers (at the least, testing with fewer OS and controller combinations would help a lot)
I plan to formalise and publish my testing strategy so anyone who's particularly keen can follow that, but it's still helpful if you can just use the add-on as you usually would and report any bugs.
For reference I do most of my development on a Mac, and use a little Ubuntu Mini PC plugged into my TV for my actual reviews, so Windows 10 & 11 testers would be particularly helpful. I own the following controllers:
- DualSense
- DualShock 4
- Joy Cons
- Xbox 360
- Xbox One
- 8BitDo Zero
- 8BitDo Zero 2
- 8BitDo Micro
- 8BitDo Lite 2
- 8BitDo Pro
It's particularly helpful if you own a controller other than one of the above, but even if you are it's still helpful because you might catch something I miss.
