Segment size limitation

We found that max fragment size limits are hardcoded at 50mb for video and and 10mb for audio fragments. At the same time increasing of these values doesn't cause increasing the final segments size grater than those values. More than that bigger fragments are acceptable for huge videos due the users ability to change fragment length on their own. What is the motivation of hardcoded maximum fragment size limitation?
