Maybe a [`Filter`](https://logback.qos.ch/manual/filters.html) is a better choice than an appender. A `Filter` would let you count events and respond accordingly. Is that your use case?

I've not reproduced this. Is there a reproducible case, like a mock service, we can use that makes this happen?
@bryce-anderson, didn't some of your recent blaze work target this? I'm having trouble finding the reference. There are no reports of this on a supported version. I'm going to close...
Can this be fixed in 0.12 series, or are we waiting for master?
When we have a new blaze, we'll cut a patch release, and those of you seeing this on 0.18 can try it, and we can close it for better reasons...
