Compare with osmium/osmosis

Sooner or later I would like to compare the current approach (i.e. vectortranslate conversion in GDAL) with the functionalities offered by osmium and osmosis.

@agila5 just checking through some issues here and noted this one. I will one day bundle the osmium source code as a self-contained R package. This comment mostly serves to ensure that I'll be notified of any further comments or developments here :wink:
