I strongly disagree with those changes. It makes it very difficult to understand the data that's in and the data that's missing. I don't think this feature belongs in Prometheus....

We now support changing per request the lookback delta: https://github.com/prometheus/prometheus/pull/9946 This is only meant to be used by library consumers, not for prometheus end users.

Is there any chance you could setup conprof to help taking relevant memory dumps at startup?
