Add 'verified' user type

Open jamiesully opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

I wonder if it would be useful to have a type of 'verified' user that doesn't require them to seek out endorsement, as the vast majority of users won't need to post seminars.

For example, they would have to satisfy some set of criteria like

  1. Verified Email
  2. ORCID authentication

This might be a useful middle-ground on which seminar organizers could choose to restrict access to the live-streaming link.

Another option is to have a field for an alternate academic email address that can be verified. There are APIs available to check academic domains.

@jamiesully I'm curious what you think about this issue now that we've added the new access control options.

I like the new access control options. I think they are probably sufficient.

Probably the best course of action is to leave it as is and see how it goes? If problems start to arise, we can explore other options and then verifying an academic email address could be worth considering.
