Drop shadows

Find a way to get drop shadows. Does this mean we need e.g., Compiz (which we may want anyway for e.g., window open/close animations)?

yeah, this is a third-party feature. I think Lumina had some support for compiz, unsure, if so it was removed when I did the fork.
