Freeze/Unresponsive/Crash to Task Manager

Open Mazeballz opened this issue 2 months ago • 10 comments

Describe the bug

Lively wallpaper (I use Rain) will freeze on screen. At this point the system tray icon is unresponsive. Clicking on the wallpaper kills the wallpaper and removes lively from the system tray. However, Lively remains active in task manager, preventing the re-opening of the program. Only once one ends the task can Lively then be opened and run normally.

I'm running Rain on two Windows 11 computers, one having a fresh install. This bug never occurred prior to the recent updates. It is now a daily occurrence. I'm unaware of a specific trigger outside of it appearing to only happen, not every time, but when it does, after full screening another application/game.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Full screen a game/application.
  2. Switch to desktop/End full screen.
  3. See bug described above.

Expected behavior

Lively should stay active/responsive like it had prior to recent updates.

Try to reproduce the issue on beta release.

It has a fix for CEF process related issue.

Updated both. Will give it a couple days and let ya know

Yesterday, WP (Windows 11 Pro PC) had a strong Lively hitch but survived. WH (Windows 11 Home PC) experienced a Lively lock up and it crashed when clicked but apparently revived itself rather than needing to open up task manager, etc.

However, a few minutes ago, I was able to reproduce the bug on WH with the beta release.

All right. Since you are running beta try to reproduce the issue by switching to CefSharp in Settings -> Wallpaper -> Browser.

If the issue can be reproduced even with CefSharp then this will rule out WebView2 as the culprit.

Which fullscreen game are you running? I wonder if any anti-cheat software is interfering.

Got it. I'll report back in a couple days.

The bug still occurred despite changing it to CefSharp.

The game is inZOI so anti-cheat shouldn't be a factor. It can also occur after a full screen browser. For instance, simply escaping a full screen from watching a YouTube video on the Edge browser triggered it this last time.

All right, I am not sure how common this issue is (one another user reported something similar.)

I have a clue as to why this is happening, will try something new in the next beta.. will let you know when to try.

Sounds good. Thanks

I am having a similar issue and want to add what happens on my end. these issues are sporadic, but all relate to the same hitching problem. when lively experiences a hitch, my second monitor sometimes goes completely blank. my entire computer freezes, not allowing me to use my mouse or even input keyboard shortcuts. (seems to only happen when second monitor goes blank, but doesn't last as long)

I think all of these issues come from the same bug, but that's just a hunch, I have no proof otherwise.
