Pressing a character when in navigation mode on Cell Editor on MacOS causes a beep

When we are in navigation mode (for example using the arrow keys), pressing the first character of text is causing a beep.

Found on MacOS 10.15 (Catalina), python 3.8.3, wxPython 4.1.0.
