Update exclude list mid-scan

We're going to be running a scan spread over a period of about a month. We will probably get exclusion requests during this period. We'd like to apply them immediately. From what I can see, if we stop a scan, update the contents of the --excludefile and then resume the scan with the updated excludefile, this doesn't work. Can it be made to work?
