I learned Seashore has a QL generator for GIMP format here (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/688). I've both built Seashore from source and downloaded the App Store version, and I'm unable to get either XCFQuickLook.qlgenerator to generate a quicklook preview on any of my .xcf files. The generator does not have any quarantine attributes, so I know permissions is not the problem. I did mdls -name kMDItemContentType on the files, and they're listed as org.gimp.xcf, and running qlmanage -m shows that the generator is loaded into quicklookd and it is associated with org.gimp.xcf files. The images in question were all made with GIMP 2.8 and 2.10.22, so I resaved them with the latest 2.10.32. I'm on OS 10.15.7. Is the generator still viable?

It should work. I will look into it.

I think the quick look generator broke some time ago. I have fixed it in version 3.8 which should be in the app store in a couple of days.

Hi Rob - it doesn't seem to be working in 3.40

Well, some bad news. https://eclecticlight.co/2024/10/31/how-sequoia-has-changed-quicklook-and-its-thumbnails/

It looks like how Seashore supported QuickLook is no longer supported. It implies I could add old and new generators, but I am inclined to not work on this, and spend the effort on Seahorse. It's just getting to hard to remain backwards compatible.

I'm sorry but I spent a lot of time on this trying to get the legacy quicklook to work. I don't think it is possible (unless possibly I had an old machine, with an old xcode, and a lot more time). I have ensured this works with Seahorse (which should give a decent preview with most GIMP files). Feel free to report a bug on Seahorse if that isn't working as you expect.
