some widget styles are prone to some layout inconsistencies and inherent ugliness no matter how subjective this sounds...

please use the "Fusion" style theme instead, which is an all-around favorite; the "(default)" one just makes it tentatively the same as of your system/DE, and might suffer horribly from that subjectiveness issue :)
