nope. that is seldom the default server path or prefix; it is only that so when you build and install jackd from source (eg. configure --prefix=/usr/local is usually the default...
old issue pertaining to JACK not necessarily to qjackctl... what you need is a pulseaudio bridge, perhaps... if that's the case then install jackd2 and pulseaudio-module-jack, and restart first pulseaudio...
yeah, it should, in an ideal and fully optimal world but nothing (in the API spec at least) makes it _sine qua non_ or does it?

probably it's the script that blocks and never returns... just tell it to run in the background, by adding an ampersand (`&`) to the end.
if your myapp does not return immediately then it's the only and correct solution.
check whether gnome hides tool windows when main application window is not active. kde has one such option, dunno about gnome.
