Note that in institution records the 040 is not editable, so I have included this issue in the Authorities cleanup project, since it's probably an issue with the MARC configuration.

@jenniferward could you have a look here on how we can improve it? Popup menu for the values to select?

(sorry for my previous comment on a closed ticket, which I deleted)

I think this should be brought in line with the practice in Institutions, which only has 040$a and is not editable and is automatically included by Muscat as soon as you create a new record. Is there a reason why Personal names has $b, $c, and $d but Institutions does not?

You might want to also look at Works, which has 040 as in Personal Names.

As in https://github.com/rism-digital/muscat/issues/1505, the 040 behaves differently across Muscat:

  Sources Lit People Institutions Works
040$a -- freetext grayed out freetext
040$b drop-down list freetext freetext
040$c freetext freetext
040$d freetext freetext

I don't think catalogers or editors need to see the $a, $c, or $d? For 040$b, a drop-down list is needed in People and Works.

We should also decide what belongs in 040$a in both native Muscat records and imports, and whether 040$c and $d are needed and where.
