After internal discussions, a feature request ticket PMFR4PLTFND-96 was opened to add support for `os_disk_type`. The variable `kubelet_disk_type` can be added along with that.

Thank you for opening this feature enhancement request. This request will be reviewed and internal ticket will be created if the request is approved. I'll post updates to this issue.

I haven't seen any issues with the users setup with openLDAP recently. @canpmh are you still having this issue?
