A mailing list would be really great!

Hi!

I think a mailing list would be really great!

I'm nobody at the ricochet project, but how about the Douglas Engelbart's idea of bootstrapping (eating one's own dog food)?

@martinvahi Unfortunately, Ricochet isn't really suited for the same things that a mailing list would be. I eat the dog food by publishing my own address on the website and readme -- I usually meet 1-2 users a day through that, and it's been a really good way to hear feedback. That isn't helpful to the larger group, though.

What sort of mailing list would be useful, if we had one? Users/support? Development & proposals? I'm not totally sold on the idea without it being clearly useful. Email is terrible.

@special I do not understand. If the Ricochet aims to be a communication tool and it can not be used for some use case, then why can't that use case be added to the list of feature requests? Isn't this just a question of having an application that meets some set of requirements of some use case?

I guess that it might help (somebody), if You post a list of requirements to this thread.

@martinvahi

It would probably become yet another way for people to bug @special, plus poses a maintenance & moderation burden on it's operators. It is also somewhat redundant since you can watch the Github repository and get email updates that way.

IMHO: I don't think fragmenting discussion does much to help a project - waste of time for now.

@afk11 Thank You (actually, I thank everybody) for Your (their) answer(s).

What regards to the "fragmentation of discussions" then I am definitely not any kind of a genius or extra smart guy, but despite being average or a little bit below average, it often seems to me that often people focus to the point of sticking with old and nonoptimal solutions. After all, getting to learn new tools distracts the attention from using the old and nonoptimal tools, not to mention the distraction that occurs, when the whole goal of the original project is reassessed.
