add metrics & update dependencies

it's been a while since I implemented this but I have been using since earlier this year and figured I'd pr it before it's too late

this adds support for basic metrics: histogram: request_duration_seconds histogram: response_size_bytes up/down counter: requests_inflight

I'm happy to address any issues
