errors "File Not Found" and/or "Access is denied." under Windows 10

Installed EncFSMP_0.11.1_Setup.exe (dated 2017-11-16) seemed to be working but the last few days I've edited a couple of text file saved them and then not been able to access them.

  • in CMD windows, DIR shows it in file list but DIR filename returns "File Not Found".
  • Attempting to open the file in a text editor (or simply TYPE in CMD window) results in "Access is denied."

Luckily I had a backup of both files when this occurred.

On a whim I unmounted and then installed encfs42in (the new one, not legacy) https://github.com/jetwhiz/encfs4win/releases/tag/v1.10.1-RC12 and using the same config file and mount point I can see the contents of the saved file (i.e. not the original content but the newly saved file).

It appears the content was saved correctly, its the loading/accessing that is failing.

@rhiestan any diagnostics you need for this?

Cross ref to https://sourceforge.net/p/encfsmp/tickets/77/ (not convinced this is the same thing)

Thanks for the bug report. Is "Caching" enabled for this mount? If yes, try disabling it. Does the issue disappear? If not, can you reproduce it? I mean, can you recreate the steps until you have a file that behaves this way? Maybe you could try to do it on a fresh mount/encfs dir. If you can reproduce it, you can send me the whole encrypted directory. Otherwise, you could run Pismo Trace Monitor from here: http://pismotec.com/download/ And then try to access the file with DIR and with DIR filename. Then save the log files and send them to me. That might give some insight (bot usually not much).

I have the same issue in Windows 7. Happened with 0.10.6. Tried updating to 0.11.1 and still get it. Sometimes I can access the file again after a long period of time. I'll try reproducing it on a clean dir.
