you think it might be good to add the pinyin transcription to the translation hints?

That would be fine I think. Perhaps adding them directly to the interface could get kind of cluttered. And probably it would encourage "bad habits", ie reading only the pinyin and not looking at the characters if the pinyin were available everywhere, all the time. But adding them to the hints sounds great.
