I adjusted the values in Headers/GNUstep/Unicode.h to include the missing encoding constants. Please give it a try.

After putting my commits in the master branch where they should have been to start with, I was able to build on OSX.
I added minimal testcases to Tests/base/NSPredicate/basic.m
That sounds good to me too.
I found/fixed a place where a notification was erroneously posted inside a lock protected region. Does that resolve this deadlock?
Closing on the assumption that the fix I added was the cause of the problem. If it recurs we can re-open or open another issue.
This has been outstanding for a while ... I'll tweak any minor remaining issues.
