Hangs when opened in display scaling mode with a Retina display

Repetier-Host Mac has a habit of hanging on a Retina MacBook Pro 15" from late 2013. Seems like a graphics driver or graphics library issue; when I check the box for "Open In Low Resolution" the program loads OK, as well as when I use an external monitor (which doesn't do display scaling), or when I use the laptop on battery (which switches the graphics adapter).

Of course, in 'Open in Low Resolution' the text is noticeably blurry. Is this a known issue?

Where can I find this 'Open in low resolution' option? I've never been able to run RH (Currently 0.56) on my 15" Retina I got in January. Program opens, I can go into settings and preferences, (I disabled anti-aliasing) but none of the buttons or tabs on the main work space do anything for me...

In Finder, go to Applications -> Repetier-Host -> Get Info -> Open in Low Resolution.
