Portuguese Translation
Greetings,
I'm opening this issue as a representative of Universidade Lusíada. We would like to use your application but in order to do so, we needed to translate dedalo to Portuguese (Portugal). Could you guide us through the process? What do we need to do?
Best regards, José Nobre
Dear JoseFMNobre
Thanks for your interest to translate Dédalo to Portuguese! (we always need help to translate it). It's possible do it in different ways and formats.
Things to know:
-
First, Dédalo is dependent of an ontology, a dynamic ontology. And it doesn't has a static file to translate, it's necessary create the translation file when you want to do the translation (export -> translate -> import). You can see the full ontology here: https://dedalo.dev/ontology
-
Second, all Dédalo app has around 15.000 terms, with names and descriptions, it is big, we know, but it is for all disciplines (Archeology, Ethnology, Oral History, Numismatics, etc) and its posible choose parts, something as; We want translate only Ethnology or only Numismatics, or... we want translate all... ;-)
-
Third, the main language is Spanish and all other languages are translations. But is possible use the English as the main language to translate to other languages as Portuguese. English is around 95% of the app.
-
Fourth is possible to use .csv format or .json format to do the translations.
-
Fifth, all terms has a tipo as: dd242, oh17, etc ... this is the id of the term in the ontology and it can not be changed. The languages are identified with the 'lg' and the tld4 of the iso : lg-por forPortuguese.
The process is easy, tell us what do you want to translate (discipline, all, ... ), indicating the main language to do the translation (Spanish, English or both) and saying the format that you want to use (csv or json) and I prepare the doc.
When you will have the doc ready, send it to us for re-import into the ontology and it will be ready to be used in all installations when they update it.
Best and thanks!
Greatings,
I'm sorry for such a late reply, the issue kept being pushed for later due to other urgencies. I wish to translate Dedalo as much as possible. Could you send me the doc (csv) in english?
Best regards, José Nobre
Hi José!
Don't worry... ;-) We are very glad about the Português translation...
You can download the last version here:
It's a .csv with utf8 codification, when you open it you will see this:

Use the lg-por column to translate the terms. Remember that Spanish is the main language and English could have some issues.
Don't change the id terminoID
columns, they will be needed to re-synchronize with the ontology. Maybe you will need to see the ontology to understand the context of some names.
And of course if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!!
Thanks again
Best
