LGTM! Thanks @torosegon ! The commit history is somewhat verbose, could you rebase it?

@joaorobertopb I would be more comfortable adding this PR after version 2.0 as it upgrades unit tests, travis and the project structure. What do you think? Should we merge this now or wait for 2.0?
