Launching in different availability zones

It seems https://s3.amazonaws.com/empirepaas/cloudformation.json can only support us-east-## zones. Can we spawn in us-west-1 or in ap-southeast-2?

This should be able to be spawned anywhere that ECS is supported. Keep in mind though, this is a demo template, and not meant to be ran as a real environment. It'd take a little work to update it to allow other zones where ECS is located, and it'd actually make the maintenance a bit of a pain (right now we have to update it whenever AWS deprecates their ECS enabled AMI - having to do that for multiple regions would be more of a hassle). Is there any reason you can't use the us-east region to run the demo?
