The use case I've run into for this is the occasional, temporary toggle. For example: I have the occasional need to view a closed account, or look up the journal...

I've been wanting this too. [Fava_investor](https://github.com/beancount/fava/issues/1082) is a good project to prototype this in. PRs most welcome.

Looks like an interesting PR, @psimonyi. https://github.com/redstreet/fava_investor uses the sunburst for its allocation, and I personally use deeply nested sunbursts. Would you still be interested in getting this PR in?

@yagebu this should be a simply change that only affects extensions in a minor way. WDYT?
