Feature Request: Implement Bluetooth MAP

Open jlfranklin opened this issue 8 years ago • 2 comments

Many modern cars have support Bluetooth's Message Access Protocol, allowing mobile phones to send text messages to the car's Bluetooth module which will print them on the in-dash display and/or read them to the driver via a text-to-speech library.

Please add support for this protocol to Xabber.

Wouldn't it be more general to enable a TTS option in Settings -> Notifications -> Key Phrases? That way, you could opt to have the content of specific messages from specific senders read using the system-wide TTS service instead of relying on a technology not everyone has. I could see this also having an option to only fire while connected to a specific BT device, so you could have it only work in your car or while wearing a BT-enabled motorcycle helmet.

I don't think they're mutually exclusive features.

Bluetooth MAP doesn't just do text-to-speech. It sends the message itself to be printed on a HUD or in-dash display. I don't know the spec well enough, but I would expect a MAP-enabled device receiving an MMS message with an image to display the image, too.
