Integrate with github license detection

Open tomtom215 opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Who is this for and what problem do they have today?

End users who want to possibly use this for non-personal projects

What would you like fixed in or added to the documentation?

Add a clearly defined license

Is this a new feature or a gap in the documentation?

Gap in documentation.

Additional notes

Open source licenses can make a project an immediate "no-go" decision for corporate use, transparency on this can help adoptions and tough discussions later down the line

The licenses/ directory contains information on licensing. https://github.com/redpanda-data/redpanda/tree/dev/licenses

The documentation has a page on licensing here: https://docs.redpanda.com/docs/platform/introduction/licenses/

Perhaps we need to make that easier to find? Where were you looking?

Odd, normally it is on the right side of the repo, under "about" and above "releases"

Perhaps GitHub didn't pick it up for some reason

Hmm, I think github license stuff isn't smart enough to express our licensing (which is a mixture of BSL and RCL).
