[Feature Request] Additional Sidebar Customization

Open sarpuser opened this issue 5 months ago • 4 comments

I would really like the ability to order the sidebar page index. It would be amazing if this could also work in the subdirectories. I know the menu exists but you can't really have directories in the menu (not as dropdowns anyway).

Second, I think it would be great to be able to remove directories/files from the index entirely. Like I have some docs that I don't want to publish to my wiki. I could put them in a hidden folder that won't show up on the wiki.

Third, I would love the ability to customize the case in the file names as I wish. Specifically, I would like the ability to have some words in all caps.

Hey @sarpuser, thanks for requesting these features and opening this issue!

I would really like the ability to order the sidebar page index.

This is not planned .. and I'm not sure if it's worth to implement it, but I will give this some thought

you can't really have directories in the menu

You mean you want to be able to arrange the sidebar menu like a tree?

Second, I think it would be great to be able to remove directories/files from the index entirely.

I plan to add the feature to confire fone grained permissions, see e.g. #261 and #54. A page a user is not allowed to read will not be displayed in the Page Index anywhere.

Third, I would love the ability to customize the case in the file names as I wish.

You can enable that An Otter Wiki retains the case of the filename, see Documentation > Admin Guide > Content and Editing Preferences.

Thanks for pointing me to the correct issues for my second point and the correct config for the third point.

For my first point, what I specifically meant was this. Currently, the sidebar can have the directories, which drop down to reveal their contents. In the menu, you can add a file and it shows up like Directory/File. You cannot really have those dropdown sections in the menu, and you cannot reorder the index. I would like the ability to reoder the dropdowns (directories) and the files.

I agree. Being able to sort the sidebar or have dropdown menus would be a huge improvement for organization and navigation.

I would also like to customize the order in the sidebar. Now the pages and subpages are always listed alphabetically and this makes no sense for navigation when you have sections with a logical order.
