git-messenger lets you hit , and the popup now shows the parent. Seems like a nice addition.

Select partial of the line before calling vc-msg command.

Usually it's good enough.

If you're still not satisfied with the result found by vc-msg. It also provides a perfect Magit integration.

You can call magit-find-file from vc-msg UI. Magit has much more powerful commands to navigate in git history.

Then in the buffer opened by magit-find-file, you can call vc-msg again. This iteration could keep going forever.

The combination of magit&vc-msg is much more powerful.
