Reminds me, i was playing with this change below fairly recently: https://github.com/Jigoku/base/commit/64703e71ac9cd0b729197260858c7adff50874e6

(haven't PR'd that, as for previous mention about the ident table possibly being "abused" there), but i think quin said he had an idea and will get to it, so could close this issue, unless it's useful leaving open for a reminder.
