Mines, occasionaly floating in mid air

Open Jigoku opened this issue 10 years ago • 11 comments

Every now and again, when trying to stick a mine onto a player this will happen, and the player runs off, leaving the mine floating in mid air.

I've seen this 3-4 times now, although each time it has been the secondary attack (with the trip beam). Hard to reproduce, because more often than not the mines do stick to the player properly.

I haven't been able to track this one down since I first noticed it a year ago. Help appreciated.

By the way, mines will float if they are placed on a door which can be opened.

This is unrelated, but mines should probably explode when they touch a door.

This also happens with mine1 and grenade2, and is possible to trigger on yourself when falling at high speed.

I think it's caused by server/client disagreement on whether the mine stuck to someone.

Yea, usually happens at high speeds, easy to reproduce on pushers (eg on Ghost) while trying to mine yourself.

#24 Server entity tracking could be related?

#24 is unrelated

Could always do raycube into the world when placing mines to make sure they're actually hitting geometry. Keeping in mind to set mode such that it does not actually collide with MAT_CLIP and other materials. I believe raycube returns the fraction for collision.

mine

Here's a screenshot to prove it still exists on the current build (2298) on ffs35 (r360).

Noticed this again today, so i made a small room with bots and botabilities 11 with limited actions, and spammed mine2 at them. You can reproduce it pretty quickly that way.

In this recording at 00:04, 00:22, 00:32, and 00:47 -- it looks like the mines get stuck due to a sudden change in player direction at the moment the mine is supposed to stick. The video is a bit choppy, but if you remake that simple setup might give a clue as to what's causing it.

Yep, on my todo list.

Noticed this one myself several times, was going to report it but it's already here, can definitely confirm it.
