Missing resources
There are two missing images:
- Other/Guard.jpg
- Other/Faery.jpg
I've checked on web.archive.org without success (but I failed also to retrieve other images 🥲)
IIRC Faery is probably the 1% chance fairy encounter, might be hard to find that.
This page lists the "Castle Guards" as using the exact same image as the Soldier
Unrelated to those two: I didn't see Alexander Dumas in the "Faces" folder, is the Dragon Guard stuff in this repo? (video warning: terribly loud techno music) https://youtu.be/Mv-KDQeLJ10?t=164
The source code is related to version 1.2 (c) 2000 and video seems related to a more recent version somewhere in 2006.
But if faeries was added in 2002, it looks like it is the case, looks like it will be pretty difficult to investigate versions.
Update: the missing faery image is related to a quest, named faeryRing
I'll do some more forum digging and see if I can find anything related to that quest. Specifically I'm rummaging around old DC Clan Forums:
- Clan Titan: http://clantitan.org/forum/index.php
- Wizards & Warriors: https://jackthebear.proboards.com/
and whatever else I can find linked from those sources.
Update: Ah okay, reading the code further, faeryRing is just the quest name for when you trigger the fairy random event. pasting the relevant code below so it's easier for referencing.
"{itMonster|Faery|1|16|9|0|0|500|{=|pic|Other/Faery.jpg}|{~|values|{=|passion|timid}|adjust}|{~|pack|{@|Panic Dust|3}|{@|Blinding Dust|3}}|{~|temp|{#|Actions|3}|{#|magic|2}}|{~|gear|{%|Faery Fists|0}|{%|Sparkly Wings|0}}|{~|opts|capture|swindle|control}|{itText|text|You are making your way towards smoke in the distance when a $SOUND$ sound catches your attention. Pushing your way past some $BUSH$, you find a small $POND$ with a $SPARK$ Faery floating above it.|{~|$SOUND$|tinkling|giggling|splashing|whistling|raspberry|chuckling|rustling}|{~|$BUSH$|bushes|shrubs|branches|boulders|old fences}|{~|$POND$|pond|brook|creek|puddle}|{~|$SPARK$|sparkling|giggling|glowing|glistening|playful}}}";
I found the Fairy image in a youtube video: https://youtu.be/yYQaImi6UKQ?t=352. I'm not really confident in finding the actual image, and I know this source isn't the most high quality, but perhaps cutting the image from a still frame in the video could suffice for now?
(Yes, I did jump for joy in my chair a little bit. What a wild trip down memory lane, finding this random encounter in a 14 year old youtube video. It may be the only recording of that image left to us - I pasted it in to Google's reverse image search and TinEye, and neither returned a higher quality source for the Faery)
Pasted a poorly cropped version of the image below for posterity.
So I don't know what resolution you are currently running it in.. if its at the original this image will work if you are looking at making the game run at a higher resolution I can try and clean up all the images and give them a higher resolution.
and do we have a Jar that's setup to just run an play yet? I thought I saw a post somewhere but if I did perhaps its not merged yet.
@murlock not completely relevant to this PR, but I have had something interesting happen: just got a Silver drop, which according to the clanskyriders site, shouldn't have been available until 2002. Perhaps this source code is later than 2000? Also very possible the website was just incorrect
Screenshot below because hey, bragging rights, probably the first Silver drop in Dragon Court in literally a decade 😂

what are you doing to get it to run?
@shaner9er
I have tried to create a proper image for Faery.jpg, let me know if you are ok with that
you must have Java 11(or opendk), download the JAR file at https://www.murlock.org/RustyDagger.jar.
You should be able to run with java -jar RustyDagger.jar, I have to check on Windows and Mac if I can provide an helper.
@letsgotothedrivein Interesting, may be if someone managed to retrieve a recent JAR, we could upgrade this repository
I did find a screenshot of a faery from a cached angelfire site: https://web.archive.org/web/20190804193413im_/http://www.angelfire.com/games3/clanskyriders/testversion/dockfaery.jpg

I honestly can't tell if the resolution gets any better than these screenshots! haha.

got it java 11 was my missing component!
and after opening this up that image will work just fine you'll notice after it scaled down to the proper resolution that it looks perfect. as for the guard let me mess with this some (( from looking into this its the one thats supposed to have the castle wall and be on the draw bridge if we cant find it we can probably make something.))
if not that one i have a vague recollection of what its supposed to be and we can maybe create something. EDIT i noticed Ted Galaday made the original stuff this is probably a long shot but i reached out to him to see if he still had the original art work but if not and depending how far you want to go with the project as far as resizing and what not on alot of stuff it will probably be easier to reimagine the images rather than trying to make them bigger as this stuff is so low res that it is proving difficult to to stretch and maintain any semblance of the image and when editing it to make it look better i feel like it would be in the best interest and easier to make something new.
Ted got back with me and sent me a few screenshots they didn't look helpful yet obviously he created these almost 30 years ago but said he would check some drives and get back with me.
