UX: Add a 'Swipe-to-Close' Gesture for the In-Player Episode List

Open Dexbuddy opened this issue 2 months ago • 5 comments

Describe your suggested feature

Current Behavior & Problem: Currently, the only way to close the episode list inside the player is by tapping on the video area outside the list. This often forces users to use both hands or awkwardly stretch their thumb, which makes true one-handed use difficult.

Proposed Solution: Introduce a horizontal 'Swipe-to-Close' gesture for the episode list itself. A user should be able to swipe the list panel to smoothly dismiss it and return to the full-screen player view.

This change would significantly improve one-handed usability and make the overall player interaction more fluid.

Optional Enhancement: For a more cohesive experience, we could also consider adding a complementary 'Swipe-to-Open' gesture.

  • When the list is closed, a user could swipe on the arrow to open the list.
  • The arrow would smoothly fade away as the list opens.

Important Note: These new swipe gestures should be introduced as an additional way to interact with the episode list. The existing tap-based controls (tapping the arrow to open and tapping the video area to close) must continue to function as they do now.

This might work, but I have a feeling that it will make scrolling up and down worse. I am not against the idea, but the implementation must be very good for it to not make the UX worse.

Why does everything have to be bloated and complicated. Like every player has brightness gesture, like for what reason? It takes less then 2 seconds to do it and it's only gonna be used once when watching that 1.5 hour movie. Whateverrrr

I respectfully disagree regarding the frequency of usage. While I appreciate the need to avoid bloat, content is highly dynamic. Movies frequently alternate between extremely bright and dark scenes, necessitating on-the-spot brightness adjustments to preserve visibility. The same is true for audio (e.g., balancing loud action scenes and quiet dialogue). We often have to change these settings multiple times during playback. These gestures are intended to make those frequent interactions more seamless, effective, and user-friendly, rather than adding needless complication.

I disagree

I have never ever seen myself use brightness more than 2 times. Audio I can agree with
