Make the prompt for emails more informative and less obstructive
The current prompt for emails is obstructive and not very informative:
- We are not telling the user what we need their email for.
- We do not give the user a way to (temporarily) skip the form, which would be great in a demo scenario. I think we should actually consider waiting for the second or third boot before asking people for their information.
- When signing up for the newsletter, the text says: "Send me notifications about product updates." but to me it's unclear what a notification is in this context.
Overall - I feel the way this feature has been implemented is a bit forced and creepy.
@kraenhansen can you post this on #marketing in Slack (agree with your points)?
What's the validation on the field? Could a user just type in anything that looks like an email address, or do we validate that it's actually a functional email address?
I've asked @astigsen to comment or reach out to you directly.
@pkopacki a user can type anything that follows the format of a valid email address. But currently it's not validated in any way that the use can actually receive emails at that address.
Was there a conclusion on this @kraenhansen @astigsen ?
Reposting my message from Slack:
Great - I had a chat with @alexander.stigsen yesterday. The conclusion was that we could perhaps turn this more towards the feeling of creating an account. I started gathering ideas on what such an account could be useful for: https://github.com/realm/realm-studio/issues/233 For the time being - we've shipped with the implementation in the screenshot I posted and we'll have to iterate on this later.
I still feel we should keep this issue around - perhaps rephrased if this repo goes public.
Hey - looks like you forgot to add a T-* label - could you please add one (if you have access to add labels)?
