Various browser features such as search are not available in new packaging

With the implementation of the new packaging introduced with Chrome Extension 2.18.1 (i.e. the Chrome Extension packaging 2.0) some browser features are no longer available, such as Ctrl/Cmd-F resulting in text search. This needs to be replaced by implementing our own text search.
