This would be super useful for our use case too. I think it's common enough a problem too to justify it being part of the library.

Is there an issue holding this up or could it be merged? Thanks! 😃

@STRML, wondering whether this PR has remained open because it won't be merged or because it has conflicts that must be resolved.

Happy to create a new PR that resolves conflicts if the idea is sound and it could be merged.

If you resolve the conflicts (most notably, don't commit anything in dist/), I'll accept it.
