Blue link entries

I don't see the logic or necessity for what I call, in lack of a better term, "blue link" entries. With that I mean that some entries' translations are not shown in the list. Instead the are blue and underlined and after tapping it's detailed content is shown. It's nice to have the details but the disadvantage is:

• the translation is not visible at once
• the actual translation (usually the info I am looking for) is hidden in the lower part and only visible after some scrolling
• the entry cannot be exported via "share" from the list (exports only the search term). Exporting via select and share in the detail view only exports as one field to AnkiDroid (see #37 )
• the detailed info is not indexed, hence the translation cannot be looked up (e.g. Spanish "muerte" = German "Sterben". "Sterben" is not found (, only the verb "sterben"=morir).

I am aware that the generation of the dictionary obviously is an automated process and the source data seems to be quite messy given the inconsistent structure of the created dictionary. Still, there must be some attribute of an entry that triggers the creation of such a "blue link entry" and I propose to ignore/suppress that.

Entries without translations and only HTML page have exactly two causes:

1. Words with no translations in wiktionary. The having at least the article (with hopefully explanations) is useful. Happens typically with names and sometimes verb forms that only refer to the base form.
2. Parser bug that causes it to not "see" the translations.

Please report cases of 2) specifically so they can be fixed. In the case of "muerte" it is somewhere in-between. "Sterben" is listed under Bedeutungen (which the parser does not seem to recognize, but I suspect this is rather a missing feature), but not in the standard for the English wiktionary uses (a line starting with #). Thus the translations probably come from the English wiktionary, which causes the mismatch. Due to the "Bedeutungen" part being completely unformatted free text (it seems) using it might have messy results sometimes, but probably is worth checking if it can be added...

1. Ah, so the "meaning" which can usually be found on the HTML page is not the same as "translation", which is normally used for creating an entry? I see, in DE-EN "Waschbär". 1 HTML blue link entry without translation, two normal entries with translation.

Same for raccon. However, there is "meaning" on the HTML page, which is translation + explanation. If the "meaning" serves as a translation, couldn't it be treated as such and be put it in the main list? I mean, if the "meaning" is given in the right language. Even if the direct translation is not given/available.

3. How come there are often several almost identical entries such as "muerte = Tod" and "muerte - Tod, Sterben" ?

On 1) I don't see how the "Waschbär" example matches your original description. There are translation entries for it. And the heading would be there whether it is blue/a link or not (like "Waschfrau"). It is there to make it easy to spot which entries belong to that word, otherwise especially for the longer examples it becomes really hard to see where one word section ends and the next word starts. Yes, as I said before, probably the "Bedeutung" section should be extracted as a translation, but it is really not very nice because that section mixes up translation and description and the description is a useless waste of space for a native speaker. Not to mention it is a completely unnecessary and pointless difference in notation between English and German wiktionary that creates extra work.

On 3): Because they are extracted from the English wiktionary. Every word there that has "muerte" as the Spanish translation and a German translation will be added as a translation. There is no further intelligence involved to clean the result up unfortunately.

• Those long explanations you prefer not to have are already in the dictionary: DE-EN English(!) words "Schreibtischtäter","Schriftenreihe",... many more, also "science"
