Wine works quite smoothly these days. I have no trouble using CrossOver (the commercial version of Wine) to run CPII and a bunch of other things on my MacBook.

The interpreter definitely has the endian bug, so I guess Moogly's original report that it's the cause of the Pole Position bug is wrong.
Is the voice synthesizer and ROM some kind of add-on card or cartridge, or is it built into the machine but optional?
MAME loads ROMs by hash, not by filename. So they don't actually need to know about renaming it at all.
