@ocdtrekkie @ahashibon please, note, s3 does not "defeat the point" because it's a _protocol_ and there's https://github.com/minio/minio self-hosted alternative with the same api (@rossmansfield mentioned it as well)

Generally I agree about unusual behaviour, because unix-way taught us to "edit config and restart", not "stop, edit config and start", I really don't remember any other OSS behaving this...
