static library

There is no switch or option to enable static libraries, or disable shared for that matter Would it be possible to add such an option? Im sure I could hack together a patch for this, for myself, but I suppose having it upstream, would be benefitial to others aswell.

I was intending to build sndio statically linked, as with other stuff on my system, but to do that, I would need the static library.
